The i - Unguarded comments cause trouble for Scots Guard

According to a British newspaper a Scots Guard was yesterday reported to have been removed from his duties in connection with the forthcoming Royal Wedding as a consequence of derogatory entries allegedly made by him about the bride to be on a his social networking site.

The incident is of interest to the i not because the i is a royalist but because it is a situation that could so easily be repeated (and often is) in a business context and so far as the i is aware, few businesses have appropriate policies in place that make it clear to employees that inappropriate remarks made on social networking sites is a disciplinary matter and yet a single derogatory remark about the quality of a company’s product can spell disaster for the business – just think of Gerald Ratner.

Let us know if your business has a social media policy or what you think should be included within such a policy.
